Mariam-uz-Zamani was also recognised as `Hira Kunwari` or `Jodha Bai` or `Harka Bai` or `Heer Kunwari` and was a famous Hindu Rajput princess. Born on 1st October, 1542, Mariam-Uz-Zamani`s son was Jahangir and grandson was Shah Jahan. Known to be the longest serving Mughal empress, she was revered as the `Queen Mother` and was in power from 6th February, 1562 till 27th October, 1605 which spans over 43 years. Despite her being a Hindu queen, Jodha Bai was granted the honourable title of `Mariam-uz-Zamani` or `Mary of the Age` following the period after she gave birth to Jahangir and was treated with utmost respect inside the Mughal household. The wedding of Mariam-uz-Zamani with Akbar impacted the socio-political and religious aspects of the kingdom of Akbar and influenced Akbar`s imperial policies and laws to a great extent.
Born as a Hindu Rajput princess or `Rajkumari`, Mariam-uz-Zamani was Raja Bharmal`s eldest daughter. Raja Bharmal was the then ruler of Amer or Jaipur and was the grand-daughter of Raja Prithvi Singh I of Amer. Raja Bhagwan Das of the region of Amer was the brother of Mariam-uz-Zamani. The Rajput queen was the aunt of Raja Man Singh I who reigned over Amer and occupied a significant designation in Akbar`s court, was respected as one of the `Navaratnas` of Akbar`s court.
