The state of Haryana is located in the northern part of India. This state is regarded as one of the most economically developed regions in South Asia. It"s geographical terrain is characterized by the Shivalik Hills, Aravali Range, Yamuna- Ghagger plain, semi desert sandy plain and rivers. The geographical features of this state along with wildlife sanctuaries,national parks, forests and flora and fauna are capable of attracting tourists here. Lakes of Haryana also add value to the tourism of this state.
Damdama Lake
Damdama Lake is located in Sohna in Gurgoan district. It occupies an area of about 12.14 square kilometers. The source of this lake is monsoon rain falling into a trough at the base of Aravali Hills. This lake serves as a home to more than 190 species of local as well as migratory birds.
Blue Bird Lake
Blue Bird Lake is located in Hisar district. This lake also serves as a wetland and a spot for carrying out leisure activities. This lake occupies an area of about 20 acres. It is adorned with small islands, which serve as home to different flora and fauna. Blue Bird Lake is open to fishing provided one pays the licensing fee. Boating is also a fun filled possibility on this lake.
Tilyar Lake
Tilyar Lake is located close to the city of Rohtak and about 70 kilometers from New Delhi on the Delhi - Fazilka Highway. This lake occupies an area of about 0.53square kilometers. This lake supports fishing for which one would have to pay certain amount as fee. There is a small island in the middle of the lake, where a variety of birds can be sighted by tourists. The Rohtak Zoo is located within the lake complex.
Badkhal Lake
Badkhal Lake is located in Badkhal village near Faridabad. This lake is spread over an area of about 206 acres. This man-made embankment today has completely dried up with only grassy terrain to look at. Mines in the vicinity of the lake acted as a barrier to the flow of water into the lake. This lake also lost its utility as a tourist centre as a result of serving mineral water companies.
Karna Lake
Karna Lake is situated in the district of Karnal. It is known that an Indian mythological character namely, Karna used to take bath in this lake and at the site of this lake handed over his protective armor to Godfather of Arjuna (one of the Pandavas) namely, Indra. It is also known that this lake has lent its name to the city of Karnal.
