Early Life of Kareena Kapoor
Born on September 21, 1980, Kareena Kapoor is the younger sister of Karishma Kapoor, a popular Bollywood actress. Her nickname is "Bebo". She is the granddaughter of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, great-granddaughter of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, and niece of actor Rishi Kapoor. She did her schooling from Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and later in Welham's Girls Boarding School in Dehradun. She studied Information Technology and Microcomputers from Harvard. She later enrolled in Kishore Namit Acting School.
Career of Kareena Kapoor
Kareena made her debut with the movie "Refugee" in 2000 directed by J.P. Dutta opposite Abhishek Bacchan. Her first success in the box office came with the movie, 'Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain' released in the year 2001 opposite Tusshar Kapoor. In the same year she had three more releases, Yaadein, Asoka and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gaam. The film critics appreciated her for her performance in the latter for her role of a cosmetic beauty. She played the role of a snobbish rich girl who was always concerned about her looks and beauty. The movie became a blockbuster success and her acting career accelerated. Over time Kareena took up different roles, trying to reinvent her acting skills. Her portrayal of a sex-worker in Sudhir Mishra's Chameli in the year 2004 proved a turning point in her career and she won the Filmfare Award. She next co-starred in Mani Ratnam's movie Yuva alongside Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Rani Mukerjee and Esha Deol. She next paired with Fardeen Khan for the movie Dev and received much critical acclamation for her performance. Kareena proved her versatility by portraying the role of a vamp in the movie Fida along with Shahid Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. In her next moderately hit flick Aitraaz, Kareena essayed the role of a wife and lawyer while she proved her flair for comedy in the movie Hulchul opposite Akshay Khanna. She paired with Salman Khan in Kyon Ki playing the role of a nurse. Kareena paired with Shahid for the movies, 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke. She gave commendable performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's movie Omkara which was an adaptation from Shakespeare's Othello. She essayed the role of Ajay Devgan's wife in the comedy flick Golmaal Returns. After delivering few flops like "Kambakkht Ishq", "Main Aur Mrs Khanna" etc she played the female protagonist in the movie Kurbaan with Saif Ali Khan. She also received rave reviews for blockbuster hit movie "3 Idiots" opposite Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. Apart from acting Kareena has been a part of many concerts. Her first concert was Heartthrobs: Live in Concert alongside Hrithik Roshan, Karishma Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, and Aftab Shivdasani. She was also part of the Rockstars Concert World Tour, along with Salman Khan, Zayed Khan, John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Esha Deol and Mallika Sherawat. She also took part in Shahrukh Khan's Temptation Reloaded 2008 with Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Ganesh Hegde, Javed Ali and Anusha Dandekar.

Kareena Kapoor is also involved in various philanthropic activities. She had performed at a fundraiser event in November 2003 for the World Youth Peace Summit. She was also a part of the concert for fundraising for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami victims in the year 2005 along with other Bollywood stars. In the same year she also visited the Indian soldiers in Rajasthan for NDTV's reality show 'Jai Jawaan' in a special Holi weekend episode. Kareena Kapoor has also adopted a village named Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh for providing it a regular supply of electricity. She was also a part of 1GOAL Education for All, an international campaign of UNESCO and FIFA. She was appointed as the ambassador of the Shakti Campaign in March 2011 which was a project launched by the NDTV television network for combating the violence against women. The project was undertaken in commemoration of 100th anniversary of International Women's Day.

She received the Smita Patil Memorial Award for her contribution to the Hindi film industry and was the recipient of the Global Achievement award at the 2008 Future Group Global Indian TV Honours.
