Over time, Indian cinema has undergone major transformation and has marked advancements in equipments and techniques. This transformation has bestowed the industry with new phase and technical expertise and 3D movies are a brilliant outcome of this progress. Incorporation of 3D elements in films has now become a prominent practice and a new trend that the Indian film industry has picked up very innovatively. America is the pioneer of 3D movies and the technology propagated in the rest of the world gradually. 3D technology was soon embraced by India too as a result of which a few films came up with it and gained much success and appreciation. Although the number of such productions is quite low, technological change is quite evident in India and new technology is gaining pace day by day. Some of the eminent filmmakers of India have now started portraying their work through digital lenses and 3D technology.

Chota Chetan
Chota Chetan is the first 3D film of India, made in the year 1984. It was dubbed from a Tamil film, My dear Kuttichattam, and gained huge success at the box office. The film depicts the tale of a magician and his endeavours to catch a young boy called Chetan.

Raaz 3D
Raaz 3D is a Bollywood horror flick and is the third movie of Raaz trilogy. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, the film was credited to be a major commercial success and the highest grossing film of the trilogy as well as of all the horror films of India. It portrays the story of an actress who envies a new entrant for snatching away the limelight from her. The movie was applauded by the Indian audiences and earned the fame of being a 3D blockbuster of India.

3D Films in India Bhoot Returns
Bhoot Returns is another horror flick and is the sequel of Ram Gopal Verma`s Bhoot. The inculcation of 3D technology in the movie has greatly enhanced the horror of the movie and managed to create a few scary sequences. It however did not perform well at the box office and received mixed responses.

Ra.One
Ra.One is another 3D venture of Bollywood and is one of the most expensive films made in the country. This science fiction film featured Shahrukh Khan in the role of super hero and has been considered as a technological breakthrough in India. Brilliant visual effects and high end 3D conversions made it a highly cherished film.

Haunted (3D)
Haunted 3D is a Bollywood flick and is country`s first stereoscopic 3D horror film. Although it did not feature any major star, the film did surprisingly well at the box office under the direction of the master of horror in India, Vikram Bhatt. The film was a great presence in the arena of 3D films in India.

Adhisaya Ulagam
Adhisaya Ulagam is a Tamil fantasy film, written and directed by Shakti Scott. It presents an exquisite combination of animation and live action and is known to be the first 3D film featuring dinosaurs in India.

Kaunri Kanya
Kaunri Kanya is an Oriya 3D horror film which depicted the story of the wife of a doctor who gets possessed by an evil spirit. It was directed by a debutant director Soumya Ranjan Sahu and was also dubbed in Tamil language. The film gives an insight into the social stigmas such as witchcraft, superstition, sorcery and others.
