John Abraham is an Indian film actor, producer and a former model. John Abraham was born in December 17, 1972 in Mumbai, India. John Abraham was born to a Malayali Syrian Christian architect, Kerala in India and his mother is Phiroza Irani. He belongs to the Bombay`s Parsi community. Abraham`s Parsi name is Farhan but his father gave him the name John. Abraham was admitted to Bombay Scottish School and later to Jai Hind College, from where he completed his BA (Hons) in Economics. John Abraham was an enthusiastic sportsman and also the college captain of the football team. He received his MMS degree from Mumbai Educational Trust.
Early Life of John Abraham
After college, John worked in Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd and Enterprise Nexus. But his big break came when he entered the Gladrags Manhunt competition in March of 1999 where he almost missed the deadline, but fortunately, he was allowed in. John won the Gladrags Manhunt and went on to compete for Gladrags Manhunt International in the Philippines, where he finished first runner-up.
Later than that, he began working on many modeling assignments. He was signed by Cary Models in Singapore and did a reasonable amount of work there, and later in Hong Kong, London, and New York. His radical looks, macho body, baby smile, and nice character made him the highest-paid supermodel in India.
Career of John Abraham
John Abraham made his film debut in 2003 with the bold and controversial film Jism. The film was a smash hit and directors noticed his performance acutely. In the same year, John Abraham was featured in the paranormal film Saaya (2003) and in the romantic film Paap (2004). Both of the films received moderate success at box-office. John Abraham again came back refreshed with his blockbuster-hit movie Dhoom in 2004 where he played the role of the villain `Kabir`.
In 2005, John Abraham starred in the comedy Garam Masala and supernatural thriller Kaal. Both the films did quite well at the box office. Later in that year he played a major role in the critically acclaimed film Water, which focused on the tragic fate of Hindu widows in colonial India. Deepa Mehta, the independent Canadian film-maker wrote and directed this film. The film earned huge popularity overseas, and was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards, which exposed John Abraham to the global audience.
In the summer of 2006, John Abraham performed with zeal at the "Rock stars Concert" with his fellow Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, Zayed Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Esha Deol, Shahid Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat. Soon after, he was seen in the films Zinda, Baabul, Taxi No 9211 and Kabul Express (2006). Taxi No 9211 and Kabul Express were immensely successful. His audience in the film Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love particularly loved John Abraham. This multi-starrer film was released in 2007 and was directed by Nikhil Advani. Though the movie failed to do well at the Indian box office, it saw acceptance in the overseas market. His last two 2007 releases were the offbeat thriller film "No Smoking" and the sports related film "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal".
Other than being an actor, he is also the brand ambassador for Castrol Power 1, Yamaha Marque, Clinic All clear, Wrangler, Fast track and Pepsi.
