Zoos of Madhya PradeshThe state of Madhya Pradesh is located in central India. The geographical terrain of this state is characterized by a plateau streaked with the hill ranges of the Vindhyas and the Satpuras, rivers,lakes and dense forests. The natural beauty of Madhya Pradesh, along with world heritage sites, several cities, hill stations, national parks, etc draw tourists to this state. Zoos of Madhya Pradesh are no exception in this regard. They also add value to the tourism in this state.

Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalay
Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalay, also known as Indore Zoo is situated in Navlakha, Indore. It has the distinction of being the largest zoological garden of the state and one of the oldest zoological parks of Madhya Pradesh. It was opened in the year 1974 and is spread over a land of about 51 acres. Indore Municipal Corporation is recognized as its managing body. Successful breeding of white tigers, royal Bengal tigers, Himalayan bear and white peacock have taken place in this zoo. Apart from breeding, this zoo is also involved in reproduction, protection and exhibition of animals, plants and their habitats.

Gwalior Zoo
Gwalior Zoo or Gandhi Prani Udhyan or Gandhi Zoo is situated in Gwalior, inside a huge garden (Phool Bagh). It is regarded as one of the most green and well maintained zoological parks of Madhya Pradesh. It was established in the year 1922. Madhao Rao Scindia is credited with the establishment of this zoo. Some of the animals preserved in this zoo are deer, monkeys, royal Bengal tiger, serpents and crocodile.
