Wildlife Sanctuaries of Chhattisgarh

The state of Chhattisgarh is blessed with a number of wildlife sanctuaries which provide support to its faunal and floral population.

This state has waterfalls, temples, caves, rock paintings, monuments, rare wildlife, national parks, archaeological sites, etc which draw a plethora of tourists here. This state is also blessed with a number of wildlife sanctuaries which provide support to its faunal and floral population.

Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary
Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Mahasamund district. It was established in the year 1976. It is a small wildlife sanctuary occupying an area of about 245 square kilometers. The noteworthy aspects of this wildlife sanctuary are its green forest cover and common leopards. Leopards are positioned at the top of the food chain in this sanctuary.

Badalkhol Wildlife Sanctuary
Badalkhol Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Jashpur district. It was notified in the year 1975 and occupies an area of about 104.45 square kilometers. Evergreen sal forests, precious teak forests and mixed forests comprise the flora of this wildlife sanctuary. Names of some of it"s faunal species are tigers, leopards, deer, chinkara, gazelle, etc.

Bhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary
Wildlife Sanctuaries of ChhattisgarhBhoramdev Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Kabirdham district, at a distance of 140 km from Raipur. This wildlife sanctuary was notified in the year 2001 and occupies an area of about 163.8 square kilometers. Sal, Saja, Teinsa, Kara comprise the flora of this wildlife sanctuary. Names of some of its faunal species are leopard, hyena, fox, bear, cheetal, etc.

Bhairamgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Bhairamgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is located near the Bairamgarh block division in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. It was established in the year 1983 and is spread over an area of about138.95 square kilometers. This sanctuary is involved in protecting rare species of animals. Wild Buffalo is considered to be the main attraction of this sanctuary.

Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary
Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the district of Surajpur, which borders with the state of Uttar Pradesh. This wildlife sanctuary is named after Tamor hill and Pingla Nalla. Tamor hill and Pingla Nalla are considered to be the old and prominent features of the sanctuary area. This sanctuary is spread over an area of about 608.55 square kilometers.

Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary
Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Dhamtari district at an altitude ranging between 327 and 736 m above the sea level. It was established in the year 1974 and is spread over an area of about 556 square kilometers.

Other Wildlife Sanctuaries of Chhattisgarh
Sarangarh-Gomardha Wildlife Sanctuary, Pamed Wild Buffalo Wildlife Sanctuary and Udanti Wild Buffalo Wildlife Sanctuary are some of the other Wildlife Sanctuaries of Chhattisgarh.
