Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful wildlife reserve which is located in Sarangarh Tehsil, Raigarh District in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The total area covering it measures nearly about 278 square kilometres and it had been officially inaugurated during the year 1975. The sanctuary is based at a distance of nearly 60 kms away from Raigarh and is a perfect tourist locale for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. A variety of exotic wildlife can be witnessed if one arrives at the Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary. The months of winter are said to be the most ideal time of paying visit to the sanctuary, particularly from November till June.
Fauna of Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary
Sambar, Chinkara, Wild Buffalo, Sloth Bear, Chausingha, Dhole, Spotted Deer, Jackal, Muntjac, Nilgiri, Barking Deer, Blue Bull, Panther, Gaur, Wild Boar and Wild Dog are a few of the several species of wild animals which survive in the Gomarda Wildlife Sanctuary. Though Leopard and Tiger reside in this forest area, they are hardly visible to the eyes of the travellers to this region. One also has to be quite lucky to view the beautiful Hill Myna which dwells here. The other birds existent in Gomarda include Green Pigeon, Wood Peacock, Stork, Grey Partridge, Jungle Fowl, Parrot, Quail and numerable migratory birds.
The climatic condition of this place is pleasant though the summers are slightly sultry.
