Shigar, Indian RiverShigar River is located in Baltistan, Northern regions of Pakistan. Shigar River has formed from the melted water of the Baltoro Glacier and Biafo Glacier. The river is tributary to Indus River and meets the Indus River in Skardu valley. It rises from the glacier at the base of the Nunkun peak on the north-facing slopes of the main Himalayan mountain range, which edges the Kashmir Valley. Subsequently this river drains northwards and combines with the Indus River at Marol, upstream of Skardu Valley, Pakistan.

Attributes of Shigar River
Sharp angles are a trait of the upper catchment area of Shigar River. Other attributes consist of hanging valleys, moraines, and cirques. Some tributaries unite with Shigar River at various places. These include The River Drass, The River Shiugo, The River Suru and The River Wakha.

Tributaries of Shigar River
Following are the Tributaries of Shigar River:

Drass River: Drass River is a significant tributary of the Shigar River, which in turn drains into the Indus at Marol, Mumbai. This river flows towards the north to merge with the Shigar River. Small rivers fed by glacial melt-waters combine to form the Drass River. The discharge of the Drass River rises significantly in late summer when it receives a large extent of water from the melting snow.

Shiugo River: Shiugo is a small tributary of the Shigar River, rising from the north eastern slopes of the main Himalayan range near the Burzil Pass. Shiugo River flows towards east and merges with the Drass River upstream of Kargil. Glacial action has shaped the present topography of the Shiugo catchment area. Human habitation too is very sparse in the Shiugo Valley.

Suru River: Another small tributary of the Shigar River is the river Suru. It rises from the snowy wastes on the northern slopes of the main Himalayan range and merges with the Shigar River after a short distance. Small snow-fed channels drain themselves into the Suru River at different places along its route.
