The state of Assam is located in the north eastern part of India, south of the eastern Himalayas. This state is divided into 35 administrative districts. Kedareswara Temple
Kedareswara Temple is located on Madanachala hill in Hajo in Assam. The ruling deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. A noteworthy aspect of this temple is the "Shiva Linga" (the symbol of Shiva). It carries the name, "Sayambhu Linga".
Umananda Temple
Umananda Temple is located on the Peacock Island in the middle of River Brahmaputra. The ruling deity of this temple is Umananda. The rock-cut figures of this temple reflect the skills of the Assamese craftsmen. A festival called the Siva Chaturdasi is held here annually. This temple has depictions of Surya, Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu and his ten incarnations.
Navagraha Temple
Navagraha Temple is located on the hill of Chitrasala, south east of Guwahati. It was established in the 18th century by king, Rajeswar Singh. Navagraha Temple is dedicated to Sun God and the nine planets are worshipped in this temple. This Temple also has nine Shiva Lingas which stand as representations of nine planets. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful shrines of Assam.
Ugra Tara Temple
Ugra Tara Temple is known to exist since 1725. A ruler of Ahom Kingdom namely, Shiva Singh is credited with the establishment of this temple. The ruling deity of this temple is goddess Ugra Tara. A noteworthy aspect of this temple is the powerful rituals of "sakti".
Asvakranta Temple
Asvakranta Temple is located close to the waterfront of River Brahmaputra on a rocky surface. It serves as a home to a reclining image of Lord Vishnu. This temple is given immense importance by the Vaishnavite creed of worshippers.
Kamakhya Temple
Kamakhya Temple is situated in Guwahati. It is recognized as one of the renowned temples of the world and one of the fifty-one shakti peethas. This temple is dedicated to Kamakhya Devi, who is one of the incarnations of goddess Durga.
Dol Govinda Temple
Dol Govinda Temple is located in Rajaduar in North Guwahati. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna.
