Jarasandha ka Akhara is located at Rajgir of Nalanda district of Bihar. Jarasandha ka Akhara is also known as "Ranbhumi" which literally means battlefield. The site, Jarasandha Ka Akhara is named after King Jarasandha, the Magadha Emperor. In this furious battle Jarasandha was subdued and killed by Bhima.

Jarasandha ka Akhara is reckoned as the sought-after venue that hosted, perhaps, the most pulse-pounding and nerve-wrecking battles in the history of India. Legend has it that this site witnessed one of the most important battles in the "Mahabharata" war, between the fiercest of the Pandavas, Bhima and the ardent devotee of the rebellion Lord Shiva, Jarasandha. Jarasandha, the king of Magadha, was succumbed to the inevitable hands of death in this epic battle by the invincible Bhima, who was bestowed with the gift of unearthly power.
Jarasandha was the successor of the King Brihadratha, who in spite of countless efforts failed to beget any nestling. Jarasandha was a very cruel and barbarous king and had many kings jailed in his dungeons. It was Bhima and Arjuna along with Lord Krishna who invited him to a fight at Jarasandha Ka Akhara. Jarasandha chose Bhima, the strongest among the Pandavas to fight. It was at this place in Jarasandha Ka Akhara where the bone-chilling exposure of raw strength that prolonged for 27 days, when at the behest of Lord Krishna, Bhima tore apart his foe into two longitudinal halves and thrown them in the opposite direction that resulted in Jarasandha"s death.
