Maulana Azad Library
Maulana Azad Library is situated in Aligarh and was established in the year 1875. It is the main library of Aligarh Muslim University. From the personal collection of Kaifi Azmi, this library received a donation of about 5000 books. The size of the collection of this library has been estimated as 1.4 million volumes. This library also has e-resources. There are over 43,000 e-journals preserved in this library, which are available on campus wide network of the university. It also has a database of over 2,000,000 full text indexed papers covering research topics related to disciplines like mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, biology, material science, medical science, social sciences and humanities. Maulana Azad Library is the largest one in the country and is the second largest in Asia.
Rampur Raza Library
Rampur Raza Library was established in the year 1774. Nawab Faizullah Khan, a ruler of Rampur is credited with the establishment of this library. This library is a treasure house of Indo-Islamic cultural heritage and knowledge accumulated over decades. It holds 17000 manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Pashto, Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi and Turkish languages. It also has a collection of paintings and palm leaves in various Indian languages and a collection of about 60,000 printed books in various Indian and foreign languages. It is enlisted amongst the biggest libraries of Asia and is managed by the Government of India.
Amir-ud-daula Public Library
Amir-ud-daula Public Library is situated in Kaiserbagh in the city of Lucknow. It was established by the British Indian Association of Oudh in the honor of Late Amir-ud-Daula. This library houses a vast collection of books in languages including English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Bengali, Persian and Arabic. Book exhibition, child book exhibition and art competition are organized in this library from time to time.
Bharati Bhavan Library
Bharati Bhavan Library is located in a place called Allahabad. It is a Hindi and Urdu public library. It was founded jointly in the year 1889 by Mr. Bal Krishna Bhatt and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya.
Sarasvati Bhavan Library
Sarasvati Bhavan Library is a repository of Sanskrit manuscripts. On the suggestion and recommendation of Dr. Ganganath Jha, this library has published rare manuscripts collected over time. It serves as a rich storehouse of manuscripts written on old paper, wooden plates, birch, clothes and palm leaves.
Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library
Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library is the prime library of Banaras Hindu University, located in Varanasi. It was founded in the year 1917. The library also has the designation of Manuscript Conservation Centre under the National Mission for Manuscripts established in 2003. Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library has a vast collection of books in e-form and various journals can also be accessed through internet. It also houses personal collection of eminent personalities like Jamnalal Bajaj of Wardha, Tagore family, Roormal Goenka and others.
Thornhill Mayne Memorial
Thornhill Mayne Memorial, located in Allahabad, is also popular as Allahabad Public Library. It is a repository of about 75,000 books along with journals and manuscripts. The library building showcases an elegant Scottish Baronial architecture, designed by Richard Roskell Bayne. Commissioner of Allahabad had funded the library in the loving memory of Cuthbert Bensley Thornhill.
