Suraj Kund Mandir is located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The shrine is devoted to Lord Shiva, although scholars believe that originally the temple was consecrated to Surya, the Sun God. The primary tank of the Suraj Kund Mandir is named Suraj Kund. Three smaller tanks called Ram Kund, Sita Kund and Lakshman Kund are placed in the vicinity. The natural surrounding all-around adorns this mandir. Suraj Kund Mandir is not only a pilgrimage site for ardent devotees but is also a tourism product of Himachal Pradesh.
Functions of Suraj Kund Mandir
The Suraj Kund Tank is considered to have cleansing properties. Therefore, thousands of devotees take holy dip in the tank. The water of the tank is also believed to have curative properties. It is believed to be sacred and so powerful that it can miraculously cure various skin diseases. It also serves as a place for attaining spiritual peace for the devotees, as the environment around is calm and peaceful. For showering peace and prosperity to devotees, this place serves as a centre of various religious rituals.
