Antara Gange Mountain is nestled in the Karnataka state of India
. It is also called the "Kashi of the South" as it is home to an ancient Kashi Vishwanatha temple
on a hillock. Granite rocks and lots of caves that surround the mountain
are the highlights of Antara Gange. It is a hot spot tourist destination for both adventure lovers and pilgrims. The mountain draws people form various places.
Location of Antara Gange
Antara Gange is a part of the Shathashrunga range of mountain which is located in the Kolar district
of Karnataka. It is situated at a distance of two miles from Kolar and seventy kilometres from Bangalore
Etymology of Antara Gange
, the word Antara Gange means ' Ganges from deep'. It is so named because there is a temple
on the hill where there is a pond from which there is a continuous flow of underground water
Attractions of Antara Gange
Antara Gange is enveloped by various attractive points that are worth visiting. It is surrounded by myriad caves that takes one back to the ancient India. Also, there are several temples on the top of the hill which can be reached with the help of a steep narrow path which leads to the mountain top. Seven villages
are located on this mountain including Therhalli.
Trekking at Antara Gange
The hills also provide excellent trekking
and climbing opportunities. The Antara Gange is among the top five trekking destinations in South India. According to various climbers and trekkers, this mountain range is very exciting as it contains a number of rocks of volcanic origin.
Antara Gange is ideal for a day excursion. August to February is the best time for trekking. It is advisable to start trekking early morning and be back by early afternoon. However with the help of local guides, night treks on this route are also arranged. The night trek is a bit dangerous as at this time one may encounter snakes and sloth bears along the route.
Connectivity of Antara Gange
This mountainous region is easily accessible from all parts of the city. It can be easily reached by private car or state buses from Bangalore. Visitors can also avail direct buses from Bangalore to Kolar that ply on a regular basis.
