Interestingly it houses approximately 50 different species of both birds and animals. The zoo was opened in 1877.

History of Zoological Garden, Jaipur
The garden was built in 1868 by Sawai Raja Pratap Singh, for the purpose of drought reinforcement. As per the records, it required a huge amount of money to create this historical garden, at that time. The garden surrounds an area of 33 acres, and is positioned in the heart of the city. In year 1999, the Ghariyal breeding farm was established and is the 4th largest breeding farm in India. A museum was also constructed inside the zoo which exhibits the wildlife of Rajasthan. Zoological Garden, Jaipur is well connected with the other parts of the state. Regular bus, taxi services are there. The Zoological Garden, Jaipur is opened from Monday to Sunday. Only on Tuesday it remains closed for public visit. During this stipulated days one can visit any time in between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
