Vaani Kapoor is an Indian actress and model, who came into the limelight with the role of Tara in Yash Raj Films" romantic comedy "Shuddh Desi Romance". Born in Delhi, Vaani obtained a bachelor`s degree in Tourism studies from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, following it up with an internship with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in Jaipur. Post the internship, she started working as a model under the Elite Model Management. During her modelling phase, she successfully auditioned for the 2009 Sony TV series "Specials @ 10", where she played the protagonist in "Rajuben", one of the series segments. She later signed a 3-film deal with the Yash Raj Films (YRF) production house, the first being her debut film "Shuddh Desi Romance", where she was featured in the supporting role of Tara. The film garnered critical and commercial success as did Vaani"s performance, also earning her several awards and nominations, including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. In 2014, she ventured into the South Indian film industry with the romantic comedy "Aaha Kalyanam", the Tamil remake of the 2010 successful Hindi film "Band Baaja Baaraat", as the second film in the deal with YRF. Early Life of Vaani Kapoor
Born on August 23, 1988 in Delhi, Vaani Kapoor`s father is a furniture exports entrepreneur and her mother is a teacher-turned marketing executive. Vaani completed her schooling at Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Ashok Vihar, North Delhi. She later enrolled in the Indira Gandhi National Open University, completing a bachelor`s degree in tourism studies, which she followed up with an internship at Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in Jaipur, and also later working for ITC Hotel. She then took up modelling and was signed by the Elite Model Management for projects, ending up doing several ads for both national and international brands. She also made her acting debut on television with the series "Specials @ 10" that aired on Sony TV, in the year 2009. The series, directed by several directors, saw Vaani playing the lead role of Rajuben, a lady don, in one of the series segments titled "Rajuben", presented by Anurag Kashyap.
Film Career of Vaani Kapoor
Vaani Kapoor signed a 3-film deal with the Yash Raj Films, after being selected through an audition to play a supporting role in the production house"s romantic comedy "Shuddh Desi Romance", alongside Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra. The film, dealing with the subject of live-in relationship, received positive reviews from critics and so did Kapoor`s portrayal of an outspoken girl, Tara. The Times Of India noted her to be "impressive, pretty and commands a good screen-presence". "Shuddh Desi Romance" emerged a commercial success. At the 59th Filmfare Awards, Kapoor was awarded the Best Female Debut award for the film, along with multiple other award wins and nominations.
Vaani was next seen in the official Tamil remake of YRF"s 2010 successful romantic comedy "Band Baaja Baaraat", titled "Aaha Kalyanam". Kapoor was cast opposite South Indian actor Nani, to portray the female protagonist Shruti Subramaniam, for which she learnt Tamil and Telugu languages. Upon release, Vaani garnered positive reviews for her performance, with IndiaGlitz noting it as "impressive, with her expressions and dialogues perfectly in place with the attitude of her character". The film was an average grosser at the box office.
Vaani Kapoor will be subsequently seen in YRF"s romantic drama film "Befikre", opposite Ranveer Singh. As of July 2016, she has completed her work for the film. Written and directed by Aditya Chopra, the film is set in Paris and is scheduled for a worldwide release on December 9, 2016, and will be her final film as a part of her 3-film deal with the production house.
