Anurag Kashyap, Bollywood DirectorAnurag Kashyap is an accomplished film maker who has been associated with several critically acclaimed Bollywood flicks like Black Friday, That Girl in Yellow Boots and Gangs of Wasseypur. He has worked as a director, producer and screenwriter in the Hindi film industry. He owns the films production company Anurag Kashyap Films Private Limited (AKFPL). A number of prestigious awards have been bestowed on him for his exceptional works. Anurag Kashyap also works for the board of Mumbai-based NGO called Aangan Trust which protects vulnerable children all around the country.

Early Life of Anurag Kashyap
Anurag Kashyap was born on 10th September 1972 in Gorakhpur in the Indian state Uttar Pradesh. His father Prakash Singh was an employee of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. He did his schooling from Green School, Dehradun, and Scindia School, Gwalior. His brother Abhinav Kashyap is the writer and director of the hit flick Dabangg. His sister Anubhuti Kashyap assisted Anurag in movies like Dev.D and Gangs of Wasseypur. Right from his childhood Anurag Kashyap had an inclination towards films. He graduated from Hansraj College in Delhi. He also joined a street theatre group titled Jana Natya Manch. Anurag Kashyap decided to embrace the cinematic world after attending the International Film Festival of India during his theatre days, following which he shifted to Mumbai.

Career of Anurag Kashyap
Anurag Kashyap moved to Mumbai in June 1993. Within a few days he ran out of money and had a struggling life; however he soon managed to find a work at Prithvi Theatre. But owing to the demise of the director, his first play remained incomplete. Later he joined the troupe of Makrand Deshpande titled Samrangan, but left it soon. Kashyap authored a drama `Main (I)` which achieved success at college and theatre festivals. His play even met positive reviews from noted directors like Saeed Mirza and Govind Nihalani. He got introduced to the film director Shivam Nair through an acquaintance. Anurag Kashyap then penned the script for a docu-drama Auto Narayan which was based on the life of serial killer Auto Shankar for which he gained some recognition in the entertainment world. Anurag Kashyap then deluged himself in the world of films and began spending days watching movies.

Anurag Kashyap`s first major break came through the Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai who showed the docu-drama Auto Narayan to the director-producer Ramgopal Varma. The latter then hired Kashyap as the scriptwriter for the movie Satya. The movie met with critical as well as commercial success following which Kashyap worked with Ramgopal Varma for a few more projects. He authored the script and dialogues for the movie Kaun? and Shool. In 2004 he also worked as a dialogue writer in the Mani Ratnam directed Yuva.

Anurag Kashyap made his directional debut in the year 2000 with Paanch starring Kay Kay Menon. However the film got barred by the Indian censor board and has not been released till date. In the year 2007 he directed the film No Smoking which was an adaptation of Stephen King`s short story Quitters, Inc. Although the movie did not fair well at the box office it received praises from the critics. Following this he directed the Hindi animation film Return of Hanuman which depicted the adventures of the Hindu God Hanuman. His 2009 release Dev.D, both written and directed by him, was a modern day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay`s classic Bengali novel Devdas received overwhelming appreciation from critics and viewers. It marked to be one of the path-breaking films of India. In 2010 Kashyap essayed the role of a child abuser in the movie I Am. He also penned the script for a TV series Kabhie Kabhie along with Akash Khurana and Vinta Nanda which was aired on Star Plus. His 2012 directional venture Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 and Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2 was applauded by the critics and viewers alike. Kashyap also producer the music album SATAN, featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh with whom he also collaborated in his earlier production Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. His movie Ugly was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors` Fortnight section. Anurag Kashyap has been associated with many other noted films like Gulaal, That Girl in Yellow Boots, Shaitan, Shahid, The Lunchbox and others.

Anurag Kashyap, Bollywood Director Anurag Kashyap has won numerous awards for his ventures. In 1999 he won Screen Award for Best Screenplay for Satya. He got Zee Cine Critics Choice Award for Best film for Udaan in 2010. In 2011 he won Filmfare Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Story for Uddan and in 2013 he got Filmfare Awards for Best Dialogue for Gangs of Wasseypur. In 2011 he also received Screen Award for Best Film for Udaan. He won Asia Pacific Screen Awards for Best Director for the movie Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012. In 2013 he bagged Cannes Film Festival - Critics Week Viewers Choice Award and World Cinema Amsterdam Audience Award - Best Film for The Lunchbox.

Personal Life of Anurag Kashyap
Anurag Kashyap was previously married to Aarti Bajaj and the couple has a daughter Aaliya. However the couple separated later. On 30th April 2011 he married Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin.
