Bareilly

Bareilly, a smart city in India is situated on the Ramganga area of Bareilly District in Uttar Pradesh. It falls under the geographic division of Rohilkhand. It forms as an outer gateway to enter Uttarakhand. Bareilly is a fast growing city, with bamboo cultivation as an economy generator. Geography of Bareilly
The geographical location of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh is extended with 28.35 degree North to 79.42 degree East latitude. The main river of Bareilly is Ramganga River that flows from West to the South-East. It is separating Tehsil Anola from the rest of the district. The other important rivers that act as a life line of Bareilly are Siddha River, Dojora River, Bahgul River, Sankh River, Deoranian River and Nakatia River.

History of Bareilly : Bareilly was once the part of ancient Panchala, which was bound by Gomati River in the east, Yamuna River in the west, Chambal River in the south and on the north by the foothills of Himalayan Mountain Range. It was the birthplace of Draupadi. During the 6th Century BC, Panchala was among one of the Sixteen Mehajanapadas of ancient India. Later it fell under the rule of Delhi Sultanate and chronologically this city went in the rule of Mughal Dynasty kings and later the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company.

It is recorded according to the Population Census 2011; the city of Bareilly had a population of 898,167. The average literacy rate of Bareilly is 58.5 percent. It is lower than the state average which is about 67.7 percent.

Bareilly acts a major educational center of Western part of Uttar Pradesh. There are several eminent educational institutions as M. J. P. Rohilkhand University and Bareilly College. Bareilly College is an oldest educational institution of India. There are other colleges like Rammurti College of Engineering and Technology, Shri Rammurti College of Medical Sciences, Silver Law College, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Central Avian Research Institute and Hartmann College. Other eminent schools of Bareilly are Bishop Conard School, BBL Public School and St Maria Goretti.

Bareilly boasts of many large and small-scale industries. Bareilly acts an important trade centre in Uttar Pradesh. Parsakhera is a prominent industrial area of Bareilly. Bareilly is also noted for the handicrafts, especially cane craft, bamboo crafts, silk, zari zardozi, wood art, "surma" and "patang majha"(kites).

Digambar Jain Temple
This particular temple - Digambar Jain Temple, was constructed in the year 1978. It contains 7 vedis with images of Lord Parshvanath in a variety of positions. The earliest image also belongs to the 10th century. This particular Vedi is popular as `Tikhal wale Baba ki Vedi`. There is another image of 6 feet shape that belongs to Lord Mahavir that was installed on second vedi. There are however, images of Lord Parshvanath in different postures occupy the other vedis.

Tis Chaubisi Temple
Tis Chaubisi Temple was constructed in the year 2002 and contains 720 idols of 24 Jain Tirthankars, with a 13.5 feet image of Lord Parshvanath in the centre.

Bhagwan Parshvanath-Padmavati Temple
The temple, Bhagwan Parshvanath-Padmavati Temple was commenced in the year 2007. A huge image of Lord Parshvanath occupies the middle location, while Maa Padmavati and Lord Dhanendra are on either side.

New Chaubisi Temple Complex
The grand new Chaubisi Temple Complex is being built near the old temple complex in an area of 17,500 sq. meters, and is likely to originate soon.

Shwetambar Jain Temples
Gorgeous Shwetambar Jain Temple is located near the old Shwetambar Temple. The entire temple structure, being made with buff sandstone, is going to be a unique architectural delight with thousand of images from the Jain Pantheon on display.

Bareilly is well connected with New Delhi, Lucknow, Agra and other cities of North India by railways and National Highways. Nearest airport is a domestic public airport located in Pilibhit Road. It is 20 kilometers far from the city.
