Screen Awards for Best Director are presented to the directors of Bollywood for portraying beautiful concepts through films. In 2014 the award was won by Shoojit Sircar for the film Madras Cafe.

Screen Awards for Best DirectorScreen Awards is a prestigious award ceremony dedicated to Hindi film industry. It is organized to commemorate the film personalities for their professional eminence. The awards are presented by the film fraternity itself through a panel of jury members who select the nominations and winners under different categories. The award ceremony was started in 1994 and is conducted every year. It is credited as the only award ceremony of the country which has been attended by the Executive Director and the Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

20th Screen Awards
20th Screen Awards was organized on 14th January 2014 to honour the best movies of the year 2013. It was aired on 25th January 2014 on Life Ok channel. The event was anchored by Shahrukh Khan. 20th Screen Awards for Best Director category encountered a strong contest among the directors who presented the film industry with some of the finest movies in 2013. The nominations for the award under this category included Abhishek Kapoor for Kai Po Che!, Ayan Mukerji for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Hansal Mehta for Shahid, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rakesh Roshan for Krrish 3, Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and Shoojit Sircar for Madras Cafe. The award was won by Shoojit Sircar.

Shoojit Sircar
Shoojit Sircar is a prominent film director and producer who is known for directing many critically acclaimed films. His movie Madras Cafe depicts the Indian intervention in the Sri Lankan civil war and assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The film features John Abraham, Rashi Khanna and Nargis Fakhri in lead roles. Although the movie received average success at box office it received much critical appreciations.
