Sreevaraham Mukkolakkal Bhagavathy Temple

Sreevaraham Mukkolakkal Bhagavathy Temple is a famous Devi temple located in Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala. The temple is situated at Sreevaraham, on the south-east of Padmanabhaswami Temple in Trivandrum. On the south of this temple lies the famous Sreevaraham Lakshmi Varaha Temple. The temple is dedicated to a Swayambhu (self originated) Panchaloha idol of Goddess Parvati, a manifestation of Goddess Shakti. Apart from the main deity there are many other idols installed in the temple like Lord Ganesha, Nagaraja (the Serpent God), Brahma Rakshas, Thampuran and Yakshi Amma.

Legend of Sreevaraham Mukkolakkal Temple
Mukkolakkal Temple is associated with many miracles and legends. As per a legend the Goddess Kannaki (Kannagi) of South Indian epic Silapathikaram took shelter at Mukkolakkal. She was then travelling to her abode at Kodungallur after annihilating King Pandya of Madurapuri. Much later Mukkolackal became a major religious place for worship.

Festivals of Sreevaraham Mukkolakkal Devi Temple
Mukkolakkal Devi Temple celebrates few festivals on a grand scale every year. During this time the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights. Ooroottu, also known as Ooroottu Mahotsavam is the major festival celebrated at Mukkolakkal Bhagavathy Temple annually. The festival begins on the Thiruonam nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam. During this festival Parakkezhunnallippu like Ezhunallippu or Royal Procession of the deity atop an elephant, Pongala, Kuthiyottam, traditional music and dance programs and colourful fireworks are a major attraction. Apart from this there are other major festivals celebrated here like the include Aadi Chovva, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Navaratri and Vijayadashami, Mandala Chirappu, Ayilya Pooja, Sree Lalitha Sahasranama Kodiarchana and Suvasini Pooja. Sree Lalitha Sahasranama Kodiarchana is held once in three years.

Mukkolakkal Devi Temple is well connected with all modes of transport. Mukkolakkal is just 1.5 km away from Trivandrum City Bus Station. Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station is the nearest railway station to reach the temple.
