Shri Kangra Teerth situated in Himachal Pradesh is a Jain pilgrimage centre. The teerth kshetra is located in an ancient fort on the hill outside the Kangada village on the confluence of Ravi River and Sutlej River. The temple is dedicated to Bhagawan Adishvar.
History of Shri Kangra Teerth
According to history Shri Kangra Teerth dates back to the ancient times. The teerth kshetra is believed to belong to the time of Lord Neminath, the twenty-second of the Jain Tirthankaras. Kangra was earlier known by the names `Bhimkot` and `Bhimnagar`. This teerth kshetra finds its mention in the tirthmalas that have been written by Acharyas and Upadhyays between the 14th and the 17 centuries. As per reference the temple of Shri Kangra Teerth was constructed under the instruction of King Susharampur. He also got the idol of Bhagwan Rishabh Dev installed in it. Later many ancient temples got destroyed here. This is the only temple here that survived the ravages of time. Thousands of pilgrims began visiting the teerth kshetra since the year 1947 of the Vikram Samvat Era. It thus became a notable and main teerth of Himachal Pradesh. The idol of Bhagawan Adishvar is believed to possess miraculous powers. Devotees from far off places visit the temple to offer their prayers. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims.

The temple of Shri Kangra Teerth houses the idol of Bhagawan Adishvar. The temple has been magnificently decorated with intricate artistic designs. The creative temple work boast about the skills of the craftsmen. The idol of the Lord is red in colour and is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very appealing. The smiling face of the Lord looks very calm and serene.
The Temple of Shri Kangra Teerth organises many annual gatherings and functions. A Fair is held here every year from the thirteenth to the fifteenth day of the bright half of the month of Phalgun. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. These are well equipped with all modern facilities. Apart from this there are Upashrays, an Ayambilshala and a Jnanabhandar. Being located in the midst of green valleys the temple remains enclosed by scenic beauty that mesmerizes and enthrals the pilgrims. The snow capped peaks of the Himalaya Mountains and the rivers and lakes fascinated the tourists. The calm and tranquil environment and the surrounding greenery make it a suitable place for religious activities. The kshetra is well connected to road, rail and air. Bus and taxies are easily available for the kshetra. The nearest bus stop and railway station is located at Hoshiarpur at distance of 102 kilometers. The nearest airport is located at Chandigadh.
