Sanjay Gadhvi is an Indian film director and screenwriter, who has directed the popular Bollywood movies "Dhoom" and "Dhoom:2" of Yash Raj Films" "Dhoom" series, amongst other Hindi films.

Early Career and Family of Sanjay Gadhvi
Sanjay Gadhvi was born on November 22, 1965 in the capital city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Manubhai Gadhvi, was a Gujarati folk artist. He is the nephew of singers Pankaj Udhas and Manhar Udhas. He had earlier assisted as a Second Unit Director or Assistant Director in the 1991 Bollywood romance film "Patthar Ke Phool", which featured Salman Khan and Raveena Tandon in the lead.

Directorial Career of Sanjay Gadhvi
Sanjay Gadhvi made his feature film directorial debut in the year 2001, with the Hindi family musical drama film "Tere Liye", which went unnoticed. Earlier titled "Tu Hi Bataa" and starring Arjun Rampal and Raveena Tandon, the movie was stalled due to low budget. His first film, therefore, was with the production house Yash Raj Films, "Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai", which released in 2002 featuring Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, Bipasha Basu and Tulip Joshi in the lead. The movie, also written by Gadhvi, enjoyed moderate success. The directed first garnered attention with his second directorial venture, the action thriller "Dhoom" produced by Yash Raj Films, which released in 2004. Featuring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Rimi Sen and Esha Deol in the lead, the movie tasted huge success, becoming one of the highest grossing Hindi films of 2004. It popularised the trend of sport bikes in the country and spawned a film series.

Sanjay Gadhvi subsequently directed the sequel to "Dhoom", titled "Dhoom:2", which featured Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu, alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Rimi Sen reprising their roles from the previous film. Premiered on November 24, 2006 in India, with the widest release in Indian cinema history with over 1800 prints, the film became an even bigger success than its prequel, well received by critics and audiences alike. Dubbed simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, "Dhoom:2" became the highest grossing Indian film of 2006, and was also the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time at the time of its release. It is the seventh highest grossing Bollywood film in the overseas markets. The film, praised by critics for its exotic locales and elaborate action sequences, earned the "Blockbuster" rating from Box Office India. At the 2007 MTV India Style Awards, "Dhoom:2" swept nearly all of the movie awards, with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai receiving multiple style awards. Roshan also received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor, amongst the total five nominations for the film at the Filmfare Awards 2007. Director Sanjay Gadhvi himself won the Hottest Young Film Maker award at the Stardust Awards. The film"s sequel, "Dhoom 3", was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who had written the previous two films in the series. Released in 2013, it also went on to become the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Post "Dhoom" series, Gadhvi directed the Hindi crime thriller "Kidnap", featuring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Minissha Lamba and Vidya Malvade. Gadhvi also wrote the dialogues for the film, which received poor reviews from critics and failed to recover its budget. Gadhvi"s last directorial venture was the Bollywood romance comedy "Ajab Gazabb Love", produced by Vashu Bhagnani and starring Arjun Rampal in a dual role, alongside Jackky Bhagnani and Nidhi Subbaiah in the lead. Released worldwide in October 2012, the film received mostly negative response.
