Palaces of GujaratPalaces of Gujarat stand as living testaments of the royal life that prevailed in the Indian history. These exhibit magnificent architecture of different styles. Presently, many of the palaces have been converted into heritage hotels while many others still serve as the residence of royal families.

Vijay Vilas Palace
Vijay Vilas Palace, situated along the bank of Rukmavati River, was built in the year 1920 A.D. Magnificent Rajput architecture can be witnessed in the palace which is the artistry of craftsmen of Jaipur. It has beautifully carved stones, coloured window panes, an extended porch and many more impressive features. Presently the palace has been converted into a heritage hotel by Yuvraj Vijay Sinhji of Palitana.

Aina Mahal
Aina Mahal is another ancient palace, constructed in the 18th century. In ancient times, the palace belonged to Maharao Lakhpatji but later, since 1977, it was transformed into Madanji Museum. It is located in Bhuj. The palace has derived its name from a spectacular hall of mirrors which also forms the most attractive feature of the palace. In the hall, walls of white marble are covered with mirrors and are adorned with ornaments. The grandeur of the palace is augmented by a large and beautiful chandelier of Venetian glass.

Prag Mahal
Prag Mahal is situated in Bhuj. It was built by Rao Pragmalji II in the period of 1838 to 1876 AD. The palace has a gothic style of architecture and exhibits splendid beauty. The entire Bhuj city can be seen from the top of a tower of the palace. The `Jali` work and Corinthian pillars along with other ornamentations adds to the beauty of the palace.

Kusum Vilas Palace
Kusum Vilas Palace is another architectural wonder of the state situated in Chhota Udaipur. It was built in early 1920s by a famed architectural firm of Mumbai. The palace houses a British made elevator which is enclosed within fine `Jali` work of stone. The massive reception hall has beautiful Belgian mirrors, splendid Italian marble statues and exquisite French furniture. Presently it serves as the official residence of the royal family of Chhota Udaipur.

Palaces of Gujarat Prem Bhavan Palace
It is also situated in Chhota Udaipur and has currently being converted to a heritage hotel. The place is a testament of excellent ancient architecture.

Navlakha Palace
Navlakha palace belongs to 17th Century and is situated in Gondal. It is beautifully adorned with gilt wooden furniture, chandeliers, stuffed panther and antique Belgian mirror work.

Riverside Palace
Riverside palace is also located in Gondal and was constructed in 1800s. Previously it served as the royal residence of the Yuvraj of Gondal princely state. Colonial style of architecture adorns the palace which stands in the exquisite scenic backdrop, on the bank of Gondali River.

In addition to these, other palaces of Gujarat include Dolat Nivas Palace (Idar), Art Deco Palace (Morbi), Digvir Niwas Palace (Vansda in Surat), Laxmi Vilas Palace (Baroda), Nazar Bagh Palace (Baroda), Makarpara Palace (Baroda), Pratap Vilas Palace (Baroda), Raj Mahal (Vadhwan), Hawa Mahal (Vadhwan) and Ranjit Vilas Palace (Vankaner).

Built in ancient times, palaces of Gujarat have still retained their grandeur and beauty. Apart from being important monuments of the state, they also form significant tourist sites, attracting visitors from distant places towards this ancient heritage of the country.
