Kamrunag Temple is situated at the top of mountain ridge of Kamru valley in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. There is an elliptical shaped lake which is known as Kamrunag Lake. The lake and temple are surrounded by pine trees.
Kamrunag is known as the "Lord of Rain". Devotees throng the temple premises in large numbers for favourable weather conditions. Saranahuli fair is held at this place from 14 June to 16 June every year. People make various offerings including ornaments, coins, etc. According to tradition the offerings to the deity are thrown in a small lake nearby. A priest acts as a medium on behalf of the Nag Devata.
Legend of Kamrunag Temple
As per tradition, Kamrunag is the King Yaksha of Mahabharata and was worshiped by Pandavas. There is a tradition of offering gold, silver and coins in the lake by devotees on the fulfilment of their wishes by Dev Kamrunag.
Kamrunag Lake
Lake is situated at an average height of 3,200 m from sea level. The Kamrunag Lake has enormous religious significance in the region. The lake is located amidst green pastures and the scenic beauty enthrals the tourists. The Kamrunag Lake remains completely frozen in winters. Kamrunag offer panoramic views of Himalayan ranges specifically Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal ranges and a view of Balh Valley. This place is ideal for trekking and camping.
Visiting Information of Kamrunag Temple
The trek from Rohanda to Kamrunag takes 3 to 4 hours, and it is as long as 6-8 km. One can drive to Rohanda. On reaching Rohanda, take the foot journey all the way to Kamrunag. The path is steep and is full of dense foliage; it is mandatory for trekkers to be physically fit. Nearest railway station is the Joginder Nagar railway station located at a distance of 101 km from Kamrunag. The nearest airport to Kamrunag Temple is Bhuntar airport. From both the railway station and airport, private cabs are available.
