Indrai Fort

Currently in ruins, the Indrai Fort is an attraction among the trekkers.

Indrai Fort, Nashik District, MaharashtraStanding at an elevation of 4,490 ft, the Indrai Fort is situated on the Satmal hill range. It is located in the Chandwad taluka of Nashik district in the state of Maharashtra. There are numerous forts in Maharashtra and the Indrai Fort is one of them that is popular among the tourists for trekking.

Overview of Indrai Fort
Built from stones, the Indrai Fort was surrendered to Captain Mackintosh of the British Empire. And after the Indian Independence, the fort came under the administration of the Government of India. On the entrance walls of the fort, there are rock-cut inscriptions in Persian language.

The steps leading up to the fort from the valley are rock-cut and surrounding the fort are several water cisterns. Other than these, there is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Kacheri and about 10 rock-cut caves. It takes about an hour to visit all the places on the Indrai Fort.

The nearest town of Chandwad is about 69 km from Nashik, which has good railway connectivity. The Nashik railway station is about 68 km from the fort and the Nashik Airport is the closest at a distance of 51 km from the Indrai Fort.
