Filmfare Critics Award for Best FilmFilmfare Critics Award for Best Film is presented by Filmfare in its annual Filmfare Awards, to a Hindi film of the preceding year that leaves a distinctive impression in the minds of its viewers with its very concept, incredible storytelling and well-structured screenplay. Such films are quite often based upon an unconventional theme and are exemplars of film making art and craft. Artistically presented, these come under Parallel Cinema, an alternative to the mainstream commercial cinema of the Hindi film industry. This category is judged by a separate panel of movie critics. First given in 1971, it was introduced following complaints by many that films of artistic merit rather than commercial appeal were being overlooked and not recognised in the awards.
