Black , Indian MovieThe Indian movie, `Black` is a feature film in Hindi and was released in 2005. The film was based on the true story of Helen Keller, which was slightly inspired by the Hollywood movie `The Miracle Worker` of twentieth century. The film as well as the actors won a bunch of awards because of the brilliant performance. The movie won all total 12 filmfare awards in 2006, which is a record by its own. The film was also screened at the Casablanca Film Festival and the International Film Festivals of India.

Plot:
The story of the Indian movie, Black is based on the real life story of Helen Keller. Paul McNally (Dhritiman) and his wife (Shernaz Patel) have a daughter who suddenly goes deaf and blind as a child. They become completely shocked. Paul wants to send the child Michelle to a school for the deaf and blind. To some extent he was confused and even thought of mental asylum. But his wife wants to try in getting her a tutor. The principal of the school sends an old friend to the McNally house to teach Michelle. The arrival of Debraj Sahai (Amitabh Bachchan), teacher for deaf and blind is far from auspicious, as he arrives drunk, angry and rude. On encountering Michelle, Debraj realizes that the only way to tackle her is to shock her, be aggressive at times and at the same time, be tender. Black , Indian MovieDespites obstacles, Debraj succeeds and Michelle miraculously learns her first word - Ma. It was a tough work to teach an arrogant, uncontrollable eight years old girl. He takes it upon himself to bring young Michelle into the light. Debraj wanted to see Michelle as going to a college with students without any disability. But, at this stage, Debraj starts to suffer from Alzheimer. He slowly forgets everything including all words and their meanings. The story proceeds in an interesting manner.

The Indian movie, `Black` is full of distinguished artists as the main character of Debraj Sahai is played by the great actor Amitabh Bachchan that is one of his best roles. The leading actress is Rani Mukherjee and played the role of Michelle McNally. The other notable actors are Shernaz Patel as Catherine McNally, Ayesha Kapoor, Dhritiman Chatterji and Nandana Sen. The film is produced, directed and written by Sanjay Leela Bhansali whose works are simply great. And the music director is Monty Sharma. Ravi K. Chandran did the cinematography. He has an international feel. Every frame is worthy of an accolade. Speaking of Michelle, the performer in Rani Mukerji must have turned more than a few mental cartwheels when she got Black. It is a pure, performance-driven role, and Rani does it with full maturity that is great to watch as well.

The Indian movie, Black got a huge number of awards. These includes ten awards in filmfare Awards in 2006. Nine awards in Zee cine awards, four awards in star screen awards and many other Awards. Rani Mukjerjee won the best actress from different awards ceremonies whereas Debraj Sahai depicted by Amitabh Bachhan also earned a number of accolades. The background score was by Monty Sharma who got star screen award, filmfare award and many more.
