Location of Nako Lake
Nako Lake is located in the Pooh-sub division of the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The lake is located 3,662 metres above mean sea level. It is located 117 kilometres from Kalpa.
Attractions of Nako Lake
The lake is in oval shape. It is nestled beautifully amidst the majestic snow-peaked mountains. It is enveloped by poplar trees, valley and whitewashed village. The scenic beauty is the main attraction of the lake. People can also visit the nearby waterfall which has snow water falling like a river of milk. It is believed that this waterfall is a heavenly realm of fairies. The people of these valleys consider this a sacred place and followers come from various distant places to have a glimpse of this waterfall.
In the vicinity of the lake, there are a number of Buddhist monasteries. There are four Buddhist temples on the northern side of the lake. In all the temples, there are images which are believed to be of the saint Padmasambhava.
Tashigang village, situated several miles away from the lake, is also a place worth visiting. It is surrounded by several caves. Locals are of the opinion that Guru Padmasambhava meditated here and gave discourse to followers.
The lake also provides ample opportunities for boating during summer and is a frozen ground during the winters, which makes it the perfect place for ice-skating.
Connectivity of Nako Lake
The lake can be connected by both railway and airway. The closest railway station is located at Shimla and is around 283 km from Nako. The nearest airport is also situated at Shimla which is connected to Delhi and Kullu. Tourists can avail taxi services from Shimla to reach Nako.
