In 1910, the State Archives of West Bengal was established at 6, Bhowani Dutta Lane, Kolkata. This museum displays objects from East India Company's Administrative Records (1770-1858), Persian and Bengali record from 1664, Dutch records relating to Chinsurah from 1602 to the period of 1858-1958, records of the post-independent periods of the Government of West Bengal secretariat and indices.
The library and archives of the Institute De Chandannagar have been planned to preserve by the State Archives of West Bengal. Rare French Books and documents dating back to the 18th century are to be preserved by it. According to Prof. Basudeb Chattopadhyay, director of the West Bengal State Archives, there are at least four thousand French records and clippings that are lying unpreserved hence for the greater intention of preserving those, this museum has lately become a name to bank upon. The museum generally welcomes its guests from 10:30a.m to 5:30p.m.
