Vikata is one of the 12 Forms of Lord Ganesha, as mentioned in the various Mahapuranas and the Upapuranas, like Ganesha Purana, Linga Purana, Shiva Purana, Brahmavaivarta Purana and Mudgala Purana. Each of the twelve forms of the deity depicts different characteristics of Lord Ganesha. Vikata is the sixth form of Ganesha, where He is depicted as the terrific one. He has the head of an elephant which was transplanted over the body of a human. Thus, the deity is considered having a terrific and composite form.
In the sixth form of Vikata, Ganesha is portrayed as dreadful and ferocious. He possesses the body of a human with a head of an elephant. This appearance can be considered as a hideous type of appearance, which could raise many obstacles. Thus Lord Ganesha, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, should be worshipped with utmost faith and devotion in order to escape his celestial anger. The deity stands decisively to overcome all evils in his way.
