Trikuteshwara Temple

Trikuteshwara temple, located in Hubli-Dharwad in Karnataka, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built during the rule of the Kalyani Chalukyas from 1050 to 1200 C.E.

Trikuteshwara Temple, KarnatakaThe Trikuteshwara temple, an architectural beauty of the town of Gadag, is located at a distance of almost 50 km southeast of Hubli-Dharwad in the Indian state of Karnataka. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, houses three Shivalingams.

History of Trikuteshwara Temple
The historical records state that Trikuteshwara temple dates back to the period when the region was reined by the Kalyani Chalukyas from 1050 to 1200 C.E. Almost 50 temple were erected during that period. Besides this temple, there are several other temples located here, dedicated to Someshwara and Veera Narayana.

Architecture of Trikuteshwara Temple
Trikuteshwara Temple, an architectural grandeur of the ancient period, was constructed by the famous architect Amara Shilpi Jakanachari. The intricately carved pillars of the temple are adorned with elaborate sculptural work. The magnificently carved figurines and the well-defined stone screens further augment the majestic look of the temple. Balcony seats fabricated by reclining slabs have been embellished with figurative panels and projected by sharply inclined eaves. Vertically erected pillars within the interior of the hall are exquisitely carved with figures in its lower niches.

The three enshrines lingams of the temple have been made of same stone. Besides, images of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva have been installed in the east sanctorum. A delicately carved shrine of Goddess Saraswati has also been established on the southern side of the Trikuteshwara temple complex. Another temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, Gayatri and Sharada stands erect on another side of temple.
