Apart from film direction, he has also worked as casting director, screenwriter and actor. He penned the script for the Bollywood flick Dil Se.. which became the first movie to chart in the UK top ten. His works as a director earned him much appreciation and accolades, especially for the critically acclaimed films Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Paan Singh Tomar.

Early Life of Tigmanshu Dhulia
Tigmanshu Dhulia was born on 3rd July 1967 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father worked as a Judge at the Allahabad High Court and a secretary of the Students` Federation of India, student wing of the CPM. His mother worked as a professor of Sanskrit. Tigmanshu has two brothers and he is the youngest among them. One of his brothers is a Judge at the Uttarakhand High Court while the other has joined the Indian Navy. Tigmanshu Dhulia attended St. Joseph`s College and Anglo Bengali Intermediate College. He also studied at Allahabad University where he majored in Modern History, Economics and English. During his university days he also became a member of the pro-Left Progressive Students` Organisation. He graduated in the year 1986 and did his Masters in Theatre at the National School of Drama in New Delhi and completed the course in the year 1989.

Tigmanshu Dhulia moved to Mumbai in the year 1990 and began working on the movie Bandit Queen, a biopic of Phoolan Devi, as a casting director. He also worked as the same in 1998`s Stiff Upper Lips along with a cameo role. He proceeded towards direction career in 1992 by assisting Pradip Krishen in Electric Moon followed by Ketan Mehta in Sardar in 1993. Afterwards Tigmanshu ventured in Indian television where he produced as well as directed a number of television shows including the six-part Krishna`s Dream for UK Channel Four. He wrote Kahani Ek Kanya Ki for Doordarshan and Hum Bambai Nahin Jayenge for BI Television. He was also involved with 1996`s show Just Mohabbat which depicted the tale of a boy`s coming-of-age and Naya Daur which was an adaptation of a classic Hindi novel authored by Bhagwati Charan Verma. Tigmanshu Dhulia got recognition with his 1999 series Star Bestsellers which comprised a sequence of six 45-minute short stories including Bhawaron Ne Khilaya Phool, Musafir, Anekon Hitler, Hum Saath Saath Hain Kya, Fursat Main and Ek Sham Ki Mulaqat. Other shows which he directed include Rajdhaani, Ek Duje Ke Liye and Who Dus Din.

Tigmanshu Dhulia made his directional debut in feature films with the 2003 movie Haasil which portrayed a love story set in the backdrop of politicized students in northern India. The film was very much acclaimed critically and received a number of nominations at various award functions. Charas: A Joint Operation was his second directional venture which was a thriller dealing with drug cartels. The film was shot in marijuana-growing regions of Himachal Pradesh. He directed two films in 2010 namely Shagird and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster. The latter once again gained applauses from critics. Dhulia won world wide acclaim with his 2012 film Paan Singh Tomar featuring Irrfan Khan. In the following year he directed Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns and Bullet Raja. As an actor he appeared in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2, Shahid and others. He has also authored the script for several films.

Achievements of Tigmanshu Dhulia
Tigmanshu Dhulia won Stardust Awards for Best Director for the movie Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster in 2012. He also received National Film Award for Best Feature Film for the film Paan Singh Tomar as the director in the year 2013. In the same year he also won Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for the same film. In 2013 he also received an award for Best Director at the SAARC Film Festival for the movie Paan Singh Tomar in June 2013. Dhulia has been honoured with the life membership of International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film and Television by Sandeep Marwah President Marwah Films and Video Studios.
