Thane Creek is part of the estuary of the Ulhas River in western India. The creek opens into Bombay Harbour. The Thane Creek comprises the area expanding from Mumbra Retibunder to the Mankhurd-Vashi Bridge. The Bombay Natural History Society has recognized this creek as an Important Bird Area. The creek is a haven for the flamingoes and several other migratory and wading birds. The stretch of the Ulhas River that meanders in the direction of north towards Vasai Creek is also wrongly referred to as Thane Creek. Thane Creek used to be an important harbor in olden times, with the ports of Kopri and Kalyan served by it, though they have long been covered up.
