Malinithan Temple
Malinithan is the ruminant of an ancient temple and is one of the famous pilgrimage sites of the state. Located at the foot of Siang hills, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. A series of excavations, between the years 1968 to 1971, unearthed this temple. The temple belongs to 14th century. It exhibits excellent architecture and artistry including the beautiful idols of the deities, intricate floral designs and other motifs and exquisitely carved panels and columns. Further popularity of this temple owes to a legend which says that Lord Krishna, on the way to Dwaraka from Bhismaknagar, was resting here along with Rukmini. There, Parvati offered them the choicest flowers and Lord Krishna in her praise addressed her as Malini-Mistress of Garland. The place thus takes its name from this legend.
