Surya-deva Yajvan

Surya-deva Yajvan is one of the later astronomers who are popularly known for his commentary on Lagumanasa and Aryabhatiya.

Surya-deva Yajvan known as the nephew o another Surya deva Yajvan can be traced back till 1119 during which he was popularly known for his authority and commentary on Lagumanasa as well as Aryabhatiya. Among other celebrated works Surya-deva Yajvan was further known for his commentary on Triprasnadhyaya which is included in Laghumanasa in Manjula. The scholar has been further known for placing his commentary on Mabhaskarya- bhashya of Govindsvamin as well. While one can trace a number of versions Aryabhatiya the interpretation of the scholar is treated as the most authentic in the modern day version. Along with this he has been able to present some scholarly views as well as full fledged commentary on the writings of Varahamihira and Sripati.

Overall the scholar can be regarded as one of the scholars of later Hindu astronomy who mark their presence with the publications and commentaries they place on the old texts. The main intension was to simplify the old texts so that it can be read by the common man. Surya-deva Yajvan too is one such scholar who can be regarded for his distinctive commentaries.
