Subarnameru Temple

Subarnameru Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Subarnapur district in Orissa by the side of Tel River. The temple celebrates Shivaratri and Kartik Purnima on a grand scale.

Legend of Subarnameru Temple
The Subarnameru Temple is closely associated with legendry fable that narrates about a miraculous incident about an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. The devotee, once in great trouble, prayed to the Lord for assistance. It is said that Lord Shiva to help his devotee had blessed him with gold coins showered in the form of rain. The town has thus, derived its name Sonepur or Subarnapur this incident.
