The Srisailam Project is located Rayalaseema Region on the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh. The project has a live storage of 250 thousand million cubic feet (TMC). This reservoir was initially designed for hydropower generation only but was later transformed to a multi-purpose facility station for water supply and irrigation.
The left bank hydroelectric station generates 6*150 MW of power and right bank station generates 7*110 MW of power. The Srisailam Project is located in AP`s Rayalaseema Region on the Krishna River. This reservoir was earlier planned as a hydropower generating station only but was later converted to a multi-purpose facility for water supply and irrigation.
Due to the construction of Srisailam Hydro Electric Project at Srisailam across river Krishna, more than 102 villages in both Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar Districts located all along the banks of the rivers Krishna, Tungabhadra, Bhavanasi and their tributaries got submerged.
According to policy making of Government of India to recover the archaeological sites and antiquarian remains Government of Andhra Pradesh, collective explorations were carried out by institutes like Archaeological Survey of India, Hyderabad circle, and Nagarjuna University. Consequently several Stone Age sites of lower, middle and upper Paleolithic ages have been recognized at Sherpally, Karapakala, Sasanur, Pottur, Singavaram, Uppalapadu Kudavalli and many others.
