Architecture of the Shiva Bari Temple
Built of red sandstone the Shiva Bari Temple of Bikaner is an architectural delight. The intricately constructed pavilions, domes and columns impart a great look to the temple. Maharaja Dungar Singh gave this ancient temple a fortified crenulated stone wall for battlements, which now adds a sense of peace and isolation to the temple. The main attraction of the Shiva Bari Temple is its presiding deity; Lord Shiva. The idol has four faces and is made of black marble. Lord Shiva is seated in the form of a Shiva Lingam and is accompanied by the bronze statue of Nandi, the sacred bull. The temple houses two colossal reservoirs which are known as Bawaris, and the ground has beautiful statues of Lord Krishna with his gopis. The walls of the temple are adorned with beautiful miniature paintings which are a virtual representation of the colourful and ethnic Bikaner traditions and patterns.

The Shiva Bari Temple remains open all year round but become a major tourist attraction during the months of February and August due to Maha Shivaratri and Shravan festival respectively.

The nearest airport is Jodhpur Airport which is up to 249 km away from the Bikaner City. The railway route is via Bikaner Junction which is 5 km away from the temple.
