Shilabati River originates in the terrain of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in the Purulia district of the state of West Bengal in eastern India.
Shilabati River flows in an almost southeasterly direction through the districts of Bankura District and West Midnapore District. Shilabati River joins the Dwarakeswar River near Ghatal and afterwards is known as Rupnarayan River. It at last joins the Hooghly River and drains into the Bay of Bengal.
Almost every year the Shilabati River causes flooding, particularly in Banka District, Khirpai Town and Ghatal area. There is a small reservoir on the Shilabati River near Khatra known as Kadam Deuli Dam.
