Sehba Hussain is a social activist from Lucknow who delivered her services for a period of 17 years to UNICEF and was granted the Best Practises Award by UN-HABITAT in 2006.

Sehba Hussain, Indian Social ActivistSehba Hussain is a famous Indian social activist belonging to Lucknow and is the treasurer and co-founder of Self-Employed Women`s Association or SEWA in Lucknow. She is also the Executive Director of BETI or Better Education Through Innovation Foundation which is situated in Lucknow, in the year 2000. Sehba Hussain was awarded the Best Practises Award by UN-HABITAT in the year 2006.

Early Life of Sehba Hussain
Sehba Hussain was born in the city of Lucknow in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. She had pursued post graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She studied as a Fullbright Scholar in that institution. Thereafter, she completed Masters in the field of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work from University of Delhi.

Work of Sehba Hussain
For about 17 years, Sehba Hussain worked for UNICEF as a national as well as international professional. Some of her noted works include her contribution as State Representative of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Upper India Office for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Chief of Health Section of UNICEF India and Country Representative of Bhutan. Along with Runa Banerjee she co-founded SEWA in 1984 which is an organisation that is actively involved in arranging women who are expert in doing `chikankari work`. As a BETI member, Sehba Hussain worked in regions like Sitapur, Lalitpur, Gonda, Shravasti, Kheri, Bahraich, Lucknow, Barabanki District and Balrampur. During the period between 2005 and 2008, Hussain was a member of the National Advisory Council. Besides, she was also member of the executive committee of the National Mission for the Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan which aimed to introduce elementary education in the country.
