Princely State of Varsoda

Princely State of Varsoda was ruled by the dynasty of Chavda Rajputs. Thakur Joravarsinhji was the last ruler of the princely state.

The Princely State of Varsoda was one of the well known princely states of India that were administered by Indian princes under the rule of the British Empire in India. The ruling family of the state was the Chavda Rajputs dynasty, who was amongst the foremost Rajput clans of Gujarat. The kingdom was originally established at Anhilpur Patan, in modern day northern Gujarat, around 745 AD by the Chavda Rajputs. Anhilpur Patan remained capital of the territory for several centuries. The Chavda Rajputs reigned over the region for around 200 years at Patan. Eventually, they moved from Patan and founded their kingdom at other places like, Varsoda, Mansa and Mehsana. Thakur Surajmalji founded the princely state of Varsoda. The last ruler of the state was Thakur Joravarsinhji (born 1914) who ascended the throne in the year 1919.

Presently, Varsoda is a village which is situated on the bank of the Sabarmati River, in the northern part of Gujarat, India. The region is located almost 25 km away from Gandhinagar, the capital of the state of Gujarat.
