Princely State of Sachodar

The Princely State of Sachodar was one of the former princely states of India that was ascribed as one of the native states during the early 19th century. The princely state was under the indirect control of the British Empire in India. The region was extended over a total area of 1.2 sq mile and comprised of a total population of 763 in the year 1931. The taluka of Sachodar was co-shared by the princely state of Derol and the princely state of Khedawada. The territory was surrounded by the princely state of Idar in the north and the east; by the princely state of Pipodar in the south; and by the princely state of Prempur in the west.

History of Princely State of Sachodar
The princely state of Sachodar was claimed by more than one native prince who were formally addressed as shareholders. There were many shareholders, including bhagdars and talukdars, in the native state. The shareholders of the state were rather impoverished and lacked adequate education. The rule of male primogeniture, through which the first born or eldest child of the same parents inherited the entire estate of one or both parents, to the exclusion of all others, was followed in the succession of the throne or gadi of Nangam state.

Administration of Princely State of Sachodar
The Princely State of Sachodar was under the administrative control of the Baroda Agency, which was a sub division of the Western India States Agency. Later the territory was merged with the state of Gujarat. Sachodar state was also incorporated as a part of the Sabar Kantha Agency and Bawishi Thana state. The territory was primarily a non jurisdictionary princely state and the Political Agent, also known as Resident of British India, supervised the relations of the native ruler and the state with the British administration and other Indian princely states.

The taluka was divided between the princely state of Khedawada and the princely state of Derol after the year 1940. The Thandar of Bawishi Thana exercised jurisdictional authority, which was reverted to them after the partition. According to the Attachment Scheme of 1943, the princely state of Sachodar was attached to the princely state of Baroda.

Accession of Princely State of Sachodar
After the nation gained freedom from the political supremacy of the British Government of India on 15th August 1947, British India was partitioned between India and Pakistan. The native rulers of the princely states of India were given the option of acceding to either the Union of India or the Dominion of Pakistan. The native shareholders of the princely state of Sachodar decided to accede his state to the newly formed Union of India. At present, the region is incorporated as a part of the Indian state in Gujarat state.
