History of Princely State of Ilol
The Makwana dynasty of Kolis was the ruling family of the state of Ilol. The family shared a common ancestor with the ruling families of the states of Prempur, Dedhrota, Vaktapur, Kherwada and Derol. The ruling family settled in the region around the 14th century after the Jhala Rajputs were barred by the Kathis from Halar in Kathiawar. The native rulers of the princely state of Ilol held the title of Thakor. The ruler was in charge of the administration of the state and also supervised the internal issues of the territory. The Resident of British India, also known as Political Agent, managed the associations of the native ruler and the state with the British Government of India and other native states. The Thakor of Ilol state exercised limited civil and criminal jurisdiction.
The Princely State of Ilol paid annual tribute to the princely state of Baroda and the princely state of Idar. According the Attachment Scheme of 1943, the state of Ilol was attached with the princely state of Baroda.
After the withdrawal of the British and the independence of India on 15th August 1947, the last native ruler of the princely state of Ilol acceded his state to the newly formed Union of India, also known as the Dominion of India in 1948.
