As mentioned in the Mahabharata, Oghavati is the other name of the Sarasvati River.
The Oghavati or the Sarasvati River is one of the main rivers mentioned in Rig Veda and the ancient Hindu texts. The Nadistuti hymn in the Rig Veda mentions the Sarasvati between the Yamuna in the east and the Sutlej in the west. In other Vedic texts like, the Tandya (Pancavimsa) and Jaiminiya Brahmanas the Sarasvati River is said to be dried up in a desert. There still is a small present-day Sarasvati River that joins the Ghaggar River. The goddess Sarasvati was originally a personification of this river, but later developed an independent identity and meaning.
Oghavati is also the name of a princess, daughter of king Oghavat.
