Meham Fort

Meham Fort is a located in a small town named Meham in Haryana. The town and fort has much historical significance.

Meham Fort, HaryanaMeham Fort is a Quila in Haryana which was built many centuries ago. Since, then this place has been in possession of the Agarwal"s who have given the most contribution in the development of the town. Few decades back, an official court was also operational in one part of this Quila. According to history, Mughal Emperors had posted a garrison commander at Meham and built a small fort that is now in complete ruins except ramparts as a vestige.

Meham Town
Meham town is situated 30 km west of Rohtak district of Haryana. Tradition assigns that the settlement of the town was from Mahabharata period when it was a site of big fort. The first civilizations appeared at the current location of the town many centuries ago, and it was the arena for plenty of military battles, historic events and cultural developments.

Meham town was a thriving town during the Mughal Empire. Before the reign of Akbar, he gave this fort to Shahbaz Khan, an Afghan. Later during the reign of Aurangzeb, it was snatched from the Afghans by the Rajputs. It was re-founded by Rai Ballu, a Rajput, before the reign of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. It is said to have been destroyed by Mohammad Ghori.

Places of Interest in Meham
There are some ancient monuments in the town which includes a baoli and two mosques i.e. Jama Masjid and Pirzada Masjid. The baoli is having 101 steps. An inscription on a marble slab records the fact that it was made in 1656-57.
