Masjid Bunder Railway Station

Masjid Bunder is a train station on the Central line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway.It is the penultimate station for all trains on the Central line in the "Up" direction. The station is named after a synagogue, a 200-year old Gate of Mercy. The Synagogue is situated near a once thriving Jewish neighbourhood, popularly known as Juni Masjid by locals. Masjid Bunder each day caters to a large number of passengers. The main reason behind such high rate of passengers is the various wholesale markets skirting this station. These markets are generally referred to as bazaars. For instance, stockists from Reay Road Iron market (lokhand bazaar) in the market near this station make trades of millions of rupees. The station is well connected with Yousuf Mehar Ali Road, Jama Masjid, Kalbadevi, Crawford Market, Mandvi and other surrounding areas. Masjid Bunder station is famous for its closeness to the docks from where ships taking Indian pilgrims set sail to the annual Hajj.
