Khadakwasla Dam

Khadakwasla Dam is built on the Mutha River, in the southwest of the city of Pune, Maharashtra.

Khadakwasla Dam, MaharashtraKhadakwasla Dam is a medium sized dam on the Mutha River, located about 20 kilometres southwest of the city of Pune in Maharashtra. Khadakwasla Dam has derived its name from the nearby village of Khadakwasla. This dam happens to be one of the main sources of water for the city of Pune.

Just a few kilometres away from the dam, the Sinhagad Fort is located with all its grandeur and tradition. The twin dams of Panshet and Varasgaon primarily supply water for irrigation in the surrounding areas, which are located close to the Khadakwasla Dam.

In 1961, the Khadakwasla Dam was destroyed because the Panshet Dam overflowed and thus caused devastating floods in the city of Pune. However, the dam was later rebuilt. Khadakwasla is a preferential spot for honeymoon and many groups also come here on weekends and during the monsoon season. Picturesque places around the dam include the Kudje village, Peacock Bay and Neelkanteshwar. Neelkanteshwar is situated near the Bahuli village, very close to Kudje.
