Kenjalgad Fort, also known as Ghera Khelanja Fort, is located in Wai, Satara District of Maharashtra on the Mandhardev spur of the Mahadev hill range. The fort is built is rhombus shape with 388 meters long axis and 175 meters short axis. The main entrance of the fort has been destroyed when it was dismantled by the British. The Kacheri or Sardar room of the fort is in ruined form. There are idols of Kenjal Devi, three large and six small water tanks inside the fort campus. After the British captured the fort, the walls of the water tanks were blown up.
History of Kenjalgad Fort
According to the historians, the fort was built by Bhoj Rajas of Panhala during 12th century. In 1648, it was won by Adil Shah of Bijapur. Then, Shivaji Maharaj captured all the forts in Wai and Bhor region, but he was not able to capture this fort till 1674. Kenjalgad Fort was captured by Aurangzeb in 1701. In 1702 this fort was captured by Maratha Army. After the fall of Peshwa, this fort was captured by British on 26th March 1818.

Wathar Railway Station and Lohegaon Airport are the nearest to visit the fort. National Highway 16 and 65 connect Wai to other parts of the country.
