Kausiki is name of an Indian river mentioned in the Hindu mythology. Kausiki is named after sage Vishwamitra because he is said to have attained the status of Rishi on its banks.
Kausiki is now the modern Kosi or Koshi River that is situated in Northern Bihar and is a major tributary of the Ganges.
River Kausiki is mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. It is described that seven Koshis join together to form the Saptakoshi River which is popularly known as the Koshi. This river is the main river of the Mithila region.
In another story it is said that Satyavati, mother of Jamadagni is said to have been changed into Kausiki River.
