Kankrala Fort

Currently in ruins, the Kankrala Fort is under the control of the Indian Government and is a popular heritage site in the state of Maharashtra.

Kankrala Fort, Nashik District, MaharashtraAn ancient hill fort, the Kankrala Fort stands at an elevation of 2,476 ft and occupies two hills in the Malegaon taluka of Nashik district in the state of Maharashtra. The fort is situated on the south of the Galna fort, which was a major fort in the south Khandesh area of the state and was entrusted to watch over the Burhanpur- Surat trade route.

Overview of Kankrala Fort
The history surrounding the Kankrala Fort is very little. In 1818, the fort was captured by the British Empire under Colonel Wallace but after the Indian Independence, the fort came under the administration of the Government of India.

Built from stones, the Kankrala Fort is in ruins and the entrance to the fort is in a dilapidated condition. Atop the fort and in the rocks near the gate, there are numerous rock cut water cisterns. There are few caves near the entrance and the water near the gate is potable. There are no structures on the fort other than few ruins.

Visiting Information on Kankrala Fort
The village of Karanjgavhan is close to the Kankrala village and by roadways is about 5 km away. There are no proper steps or pathways leading up to the Kankrala Fort top.
